The Feathers at Brockton, Much Wenlock
Nestled in the sleepy historic village of Brockton on the Much Wenlock to Ludlow Road, is the renowned Feathers. Dating back centuries, this rather unassuming building has undergone many changes, but has retained its traditional character throughout, and now enjoying authentically rustic Mediterranean influenced decor.
The owners Paul and Anna Kayiatou.,who have now been resident for over 4 years, have made many improvements, to both the menus, and the decor. The much neglected conservatory has also now been updated, as well as adding 4 gorgeous new bedrooms in Brockton, Much wenlock, a rarity! (see tab above)
The Outside enjoys a roadside location. though the main areas are at the rear overlooking the brook. and greenery of the views across the Shropshire Country-side. The large car park is certainly welcomed on a busy evening. and the walled patio area is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy your pre-dinner drinks.
The bar is small. but perfectly formed. decked with old wine boxes full of over 40 interesting wines, prices starting from £9.95. with 10-12 available by the glass – Two well kept local real ales are always available. along with premium lagers.
All wines are also available at a wholesale price to take out and are available from the New Shop List!
The interior is relaxing and open and surprisingly light. Set out a little like a rabbit warren. it creates welcome corners. cosy nooks and quirky tables to sit and enjoy any occasion. The quarry tiled floors add an authentic feel. and the collection of eclectic furniture. and distressed wooden tables add to the ambience. The eclectic mix of chairs including leather. old pews. rustic wicker. and fixed cushioned alcoves. mean you are never spoilt for choice. The exposed beams and stone-works. along with the inglenook fireplace. recesses filled with ceramics and artefacts. really add to the ambience.
The 67 seater (soon to be 87 with the newly refurbished conservatory) restaurant stretches throughout the entire building. offering a wide choice of areas to sit and enjoy the décor – showing artwork from local artists such as Beverley Fry.
The food can only be described as traditional British with strong local influences – and fresh ingredients. All the meats and vegetables are locally sourced. and the fish caught and brought up from Brixham.
The menu is printed with regular favourites. including their famous half a crispy duck (really worth a taster if you get chance) Pork Belly with black pudding. steaks and vegetarian dishes - All complimented by daily specials boards.
