An award-winning Broseley restaurateur is putting her heart into creating the food of love so that locals can celebrate an intimate date on Valentine’s Day.
Suree Coates, who was named the Best Thai Cook in the UK in 2011 in the National Asian Curry Awards, is planning a feast at the King and Thai Restaurant, in Broseley.
She has created a number of new dishes for the year’s most romantic day – Famed for her incre-edible desserts, Suree will also eb creating an indulgent ‘assiette’ for two to share, the food of love “people love my desserts as much as I love making them – Valentines is a real excuse to really be creative”, some will feature red, life-sized heart shapes, which are created from sugar.
Chef Suree said: “I love creating new desserts and I have been working on an indulgent strawberry dessert, which is topped by the shape of a heart made from a special type of sugar.
And Chef Suree who runs the restaurant with her partner, Simon Turner, will be up in the early hours of the morning to make sure her Valentine Day plans come to fruition.
She said: “I am planning a real feast.”
Suree added that she would be up with the lark to cater for an anticipated full-house – with a trip to Birmingham’s wholesale fish market planned for 3am before her Valentine weekend celebration.
She said: “I’ll be preparing lots of fresh fish, like oysters, seabass, and crab for our seafood sharing platter, and Birmingham’s fish market gets the freshest produce in the country. To make sure I get the catch of the day, I’ll need to be there very, very early, so that I can beat the other chefs from across the Midlands.
“I’ll be up at 3am on Valentine’s weekend, maybe even earlier, so that I can get the supplies I want. It makes the Valentine weekend very long, but it’s worth it when I see the smiles on the faces of my customers.”
The King and Thai dazzled at the National Asian Curry Awards in October after judges were impressed by Suree’s use of fresh ingredients.
Ms Coates added: "We focus on the best the region has to offer, and ensure that all our ingredients are fresh. We will also be offering lcaol 28 day aged fillet steaks for our popular 'Weeping Tiger' dish.
“True to Thai traditions, we use fresh herbs, and spices and refuse any artificial ingredients. We grow some of them ourselves in our gardens.”
